The issues surrounding cuts to school clubs and organizations…

Recently, I have been receiving feedback from several people concerning some of the extra-curricular activities cut by our School Administration. So I spent a little of my time this weekend  going back through the information I had been provided concerning our District’s reorganization efforts. My thoughts are ; considering the short amount of time our new Superintendent had to craft a Fiscal Recovery Plan for our District (as ordered by State Authorities). Her decisions, based on a quantitative analysis ( how many kids/how much money being spent) and recommendations from Building Principles and Administrative staff, were very accurate.

Please remember that she, like myself, are attempting to deal with issues created by past administrations and Boards. In order to get our School System where it needs to be we are forced to make some pretty unpopular decisions. However, the difference these days is that no one is hiding from the tough stuff. We are determined to do what it takes to improve the level of education for our kids.

That being said, when looking at some of our clubs from a qualitative analysis (what type of students are members/how is it impacting the educational success of our kids) I found that we needed to take another look at some of the decisions that were made. I have started the process and believe we will see some positive results very soon.

Thank you to those parents and students who stepped forward to help make our school system a better place.  As I have said previously, your feedback is essential if we are to succeed.  Marshall
