1995 Parks and Recreation Promo video (part 1)

Back in the early 90’s I had the opportunity to spend quite a bit of time with our City’s former Parks Dept. Superintendent, Bob Straughn. I was serving as The President of The Massillon Main Street Program trying to revitalize our downtown business district at the same time Bob was trying to reinvent the way we utilized our City’s Parks and Recreation resources. Our frequent meetings in my office nurtured many of the developments we enjoy today.
During that period of time Bob began envisioning a bold new plan to create a system that would greatly increase the quality of life for our citizens. It centered on creating recreation programs in our neighborhoods and meeting our growing citywide need for more youth baseball, football and soccer fields. Bob believed that by partnering with our City School System to jointly develop our school yards as neighborhood parks everybody would benefit. In addition, he saw a need for a City Recreation Center and Community Park to address our facilities needs.
The following is an interview being conducted by Walt Bronsick concerning the 1995 Parks and Rec. Levy initiative to fund this plan. I’m sure you will find it illuminating.
